Road safety
The first death caused by a traffic accident was recorded in 1896. During the examination of the accident the forensic surgeon had then written: “This should never happen again”.
Unfortunately, a century later our society continues to experience the grievous phenomenon of road accidents. Every year 1 million people loose their lives on the road, while the number of injured is approximately 50 million.
The main causes of traffic accidents are:
- Frequent Highway Code violations
- Not using seat belt
- Alcohol drinking
- Excessive speeding
- Fatigue and sleeping while driving
- Aggressive driving behavior
Prevention of road accidents is the best way to achieve the aim of saving lives. Safe driving is responsibility of each one of us.
Safety depends on the education we get since we are young. The information flow on prevention of traffic accidents and on personal initiative can make us all more responsible citizens.
Safe Driving advice
- We should always apply the Highway Code.
- We should not drive under the influence of alcohol.
- In main roads, we should keep steady speed which enables us to better react to unexpected cases.
- We should always place children in the back seats of the vehicle with their seat belt fasten.
- When we are pedestrians, we should carefully check the crossings.
- We should always wear our helmet or have our seat belt fasten.
Therefore, when we begin our trip, let’s keep in mind that our main purpose is to reach our destination safely.
