International Relations Department

The long lasting presence of the Hellenic Red Cross even under the most difficult and unstableconditions of modern Greek history is a heritage of experience but of recollection of human pain as well. HRC sense of sensitivity towards agony, disease, starvation and human misery mobilizes its activities inside and outside Greek territory whenever there is a need.

As an active member of The International Movement of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies, the HRC participates in the International Movement activities based on support and cooperation existing among National Societies. International Relations Department undertakes the important and complicated task of international communications of the National Society in order to be imposition to accomplish a fruitful cooperation as well as to achieve appropriate and effective humanitarian assistance.

In emergency response situations inside Greek territory, the International Relations Department undertakes communication area with other National Societies and with the components of the Movement in order to activate financial resources from abroad. Additionally, International Relations Department is mainly responsible for promoting HRC activities in international level.

Taking into account the difficulties and problems existing in a lot of countries all over the world but also the fact that human needs is not limited within the boundaries of Greek territory, Hellenic Red Cross extends, through International Relations Department, its multifacetedactivities abroad and supports other National Societies relief assistance.

Considering that there are no boundaries to human pain, International Relations Department of HRC, plans and implements programs to promote cooperation abroad and to be present as long as there are people, offering emergency relief or development assistance.

Particular Activities.

International Conferences and International Humanitarian Law (IHL)

International Relations Derpartment prepares HRC participation in International Conferences and Constitutional Meetings both in International and in Regional level or organizes similar events in Greece. It follows international developments inside and outside the Movement intending to fully adopt HRC structures and activities to international standards. It also provides information and raises public awareness on IHL by distributing educational material, by organizing educational seminars and by publishing material while in the same time it promotes the fundamental principles of the Movement.

·Bilateral and Regional Cooperation

It implements programs with other member National Societies in both bilateral or regional level so as to support cooperation and friendship based on common humanitarian vision and mission. Participation in Europe campaigns of particular interest, such as the European Road Safety Red Cross Campaign, organization of children’s hospitality programs or exchange of visits and sharing of ideas.
