Geneva Conventions and the Additional Protocols.

The first Geneva Convention of 1864 concerned exclusively the nursing of the wounded soldiers. Later, law was formed in order to include the hostilities at sea and the prisoners of war.

In 1949, the Conventions were adapted and extended:

1st Convention

Wounded soldiers in the battlefield

2nd Convention

Wounded and shipwrecked members of armed forces in sea

3rd Convention

Prisoners of war

4th Convention

Civilians under enemy occupation

In 1977, two Additional Protocols were adopted:

1st Protocol

International conflicts

2nd Protocol

Non-international conflicts

In 2005, the Additional Protocol 3 was adopted:

3rd Protocol

Additional distinctive emblem
